Why do I need prescription safety glasses?

Not only is a legal requirement for employers to provide a safe working environment (particularly with industrial and manufacturing activities) but preventing eye injuries can be quite beneficial to employers in terms of decreased workers compensation claims, decreased lost time injuries (LTIs) and increased productivity.

Statistics show that 116,000 people in Australia seek medical assistance for eye injuries every year. Most these injuries are a result of workers not wearing proper protective eyewear being too close to the activity or assisting others performing potentially harmful tasks.

How can the new prescription safety standard ASNZs 1337.6 benefit me?

Until now, the visually impaired who required MEDIUM impact protection could only wear special prescription inserts under their goggles or wear safety “over spectacles” on top of their normal prescription glasses. Both methods resulted in problems such as fogging, restricted vision and restricted movements, uncomfortable wear and not to mention and unsightly look – all of which resulted in decreased wearing compliance by employees.

Our prescription safety glasses, compliant with NEW MEDIUM IMPACT requirements allow for:
  • Increased comfort
  • Increased protection
  • More fashionable look
  • Less fogging
  • Less restriction on movement and visual sight
  • Better compliance from your employees

How can I be sure of the quality of your prescription safety glasses?

The Australian Standard ASNZs 1337.6 requires manufactures of prescription safety glasses to be certified

Strict certification requirements by SAI global include expensive testing of the multitude of frame and lens combinations followed by ongoing batch testing.

Each industrial prescription safety glasses manufactured by the certified manufacturer will carry the “fiveticks standards mark” and a certificate with the manufacturers license number for tracking if required.

Safety Eyewear Optometrists supply products only from certified manufacturers, so you can rest at ease knowing that your employee’s eye safety is legally guaranteed.

    What are vision screenings?

Vision screenings are an essential but not compulsory component to every comprehensive eye safety program. Not only will vision screening help you determine the employees that require prescription safety glasses as opposed to non-prescription but we can also help screen for various eye diseases which you or your employee may not be aware of.

You will be surprised to find there are many people in the workforce who have never had their eyes tested. Not only are they not performing optimally but they are putting themselves and those around them at risk to various injuries.
